The Ministry of Defence (MOD) started its function in December 1971 soon after the liberation war

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) started its function in December 1971 soon after the liberation war. MOD was given the regulatory power over the following services and organizations at that time :

1.                   Army Headquarters.

2.                   Naval Headquarters.

3.                   Air Headquarters.

4.                   Defence Production and Procurement Board.

5.                   Department of Military Lands and Cantonments.

6.                   Inter-Services Intelligence Department.

7.                   Inter-Services Co-ordination Board.

8.                   Department of Meteorology.

9.                   Defence Science Organization.

10.               Ordnance Factory, Gazipur.

11.               Armed Services Board.

12.               Department of Civil Aviation.

13.               Airport Development Agency.

14.               Fauzi Foundation.

 

In 1976 the Department of Civil Aviation was separated to create civil Aviation and Tourism Division. The MOD in course of time experienced a few more changes and re-organizations including the creation of the Armed Forces Division (AFD) in 1989. AFD is vested with some vital establishment and administrative responsibilities. Ultimately MOD has put on the present framework in the year 2001.  This Ministry was initially located in the old High Court building. In 1993 MOD was shifted to the present building of Gonobhaban Annex Complex Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
